Sr. Manager of Engineering

The Sr. Manager of Engineering is a key member of Fingercheck’s fast-growing Engineering team where you’ll be responsible for people, process and technology management of our cloud-based and mobile HCM solution. This position will be a “player / coach” engaged in hands-on software development, architectural planning, strategic initiatives and effective team management.


As a “player”, you will collaboratively lead and participate in hands-on frontend and backend coding of new and existing product features and enhancements from ideation and architecture through development, testing, deployment and post-deployment support. 


As a “coach”, you’ll have the opportunity to build and manage multiple high-performing software engineering teams to foster strong collaboration with Product Management, UX, DevOps, DBAs, Tech Support, and help shape the processes and technology stack necessary to build efficient and high performing solutions for our clients.  


We are an agile organization and develop using the Microsoft .NET stack running on AWS infrastructure. Our stack consists of ASP.NET, .NET Framework, NET 10, C#, Angular, JQuery, Redis, MS SQL Server, IIS, Javascript. We use AI tools and code assistants like Github Copilot, Claude Code, OpenCode  to improve developer experience and team productivity..


This role reports to the VP of Engineering, who reports to the CEO. 



Essential Responsibilities

  • Execute the engineering strategy and align team deliverables with overall business goals.

  • Lead and inspire multiple high-performance engineering teams to achieve excellence

  • Manage cross-team dependencies, resource allocation, and synchronization across multiple engineering squads to ensure consistent delivery and roadmap execution.

  • Drive delivery excellence: maintain sprint health, velocity visibility, and predictable execution rhythms that give leadership reliable insight into risk, progress, and outcomes without burdening engineering staff

  • Champion the adoption and governance of modern AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted code review, agentic coding workflows) including access management, onboarding protocols, and usage best practices to maximize team productivity and output quality

  • Build toward self-managed teams by establishing clear ownership structures, accountability frameworks, and enabling engineers to drive their own delivery with minimal dependency on escalation chains

  • Provide solution architecture direction and guidance to engineering teams, translating product requirements and business goals into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical designs

  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of technical processes, architecture, and code

  • Provide technical leadership in designing scalable and secure cloud-based solutions

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies, including AI/ML tooling and emerging development practices, recommending relevant advancements

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a skilled engineering team

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, promoting continuous learning

  • Design, develop and implement new product features or product feature enhancements

  • Have responsibility for review, design analysis, development, testing, documentation, and implementation

  • Collaborate with and train developers on best practices, including unit testing, continuous integration practices, code reviews, internal tool usage, technical roadblock mitigation and process improvements

  • Collaborate with VP of Engineering, Product Managers, UX Designers, and Engineering staff to develop solution architecture artifacts in support of product development

  • Drive innovation in product development and engineering processes

  • Support the VP of Engineering in implementing the technology roadmap and prioritizing team-level initiatives.

  • Drive technical delivery of projects based on product development pipeline priorities

  • Collaboratively define and ensure adherence to coding standards and approved technologies

  • Provide technical assessment of the impact of any changes to product requirements

  • Provide support to Tier 2 customer service agents to triage and resolve client-related issues

  • Work closely with the SRE team to guarantee the optimal health, high availability, resilience, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of our systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to inspire and drive a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement

  • 7-10 years’ full-stack object oriented development in Microsoft .NET and Angular (Prior Software as a Service (SaaS) experience is a big plus)

  • Experience with related technologies such as .NET / Framework, MVC, HTML, CSS, JSON, JQuery, REST, SQS, DynamoDB

  • Demonstrated track record of building self-managing, high-accountability engineering teams, where engineers own delivery outcomes without requiring constant leadership coordination

  • Understanding of security best practices in cloud-based environments

  • 5+ years’ successfully leading and delivering full-stack software engineering projects in AWS

  • 5+ years’ experience leading multiple engineering teams in an Agile environment.

  • Currently engaged in 40% to 60% hands-on code-base contribution in software development

  • Proven ability to drive operational consistency, engineering excellence, and communication across multiple squads

  • Strong delivery management sensibility: ability to maintain velocity visibility, surface and resolve blockers proactively, and provide leadership with reliable delivery reporting

  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong organization and prioritization skills

  • Ability to create clear and concise goals for individual team members and foster accountability and ownership for the quality of delivered code

  • Experience providing hands-on solution architecture direction. Including architecture review, technical design documentation, and guiding teams from problem statement through scalable implementation

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or Equivalent

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience adopting, governing, and scaling AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted code review, agentic workflows) within an engineering team

  • Passion for continuous learning and innovation

  • Proficiency with tools such as JIRA, Bitbucket / Git / GitHub, NAnt, MSBuild, Artifactory, Nexus, Docker, NUnit, Visual Studio

  • Experience implementing quality processes such as unit testing, integration testing, automated code quality validation (e.g., SonarQube)

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to plan and prioritize technical initiatives

  • Experience implementing and monitoring security measures to protect sensitive data

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with Engineering Leadership to execute technology roadmaps and prioritize technical initiatives.

  • 5+ years’ experience with AWS components such as EC2, ECS, Lambda, Redshift, Bedrock, RDS, S3, Beanstalk, CloudWatch, SES, SNS, Event Gateway

  • Experience managing mobile development projects and/or developing mobile applications (.NET/ReactNative)

  • Proven track record in developing and supporting large-scale, cloud-based Human Capital Management (HCM) SaaS solutions is highly preferred.
